A practical buyer sequence
- Set an all-in budget including transfer, insurance, early maintenance, and a repair reserve.
- Build a comparable set matching model, year, variant, mileage, and region.
- Use a vehicle-specific valuation rather than applying the national or model median directly.
- Verify identity, history, tyres, electronics, and mechanical condition independently.
- Negotiate the evidence-backed condition and maintenance gap—not only the advertised discount.

Frequently asked questions
Did Malaysian used-car values fall 5.1% in June?
Not on a like-for-like basis. The overall median asking price fell 5.1%, but much of that reflected a less expensive mix of observed vehicles. The comparable basket moved 1.1% lower.
Does the report contain completed sale prices?
No. It analyses observed advertised asking prices and matched listing histories. It does not claim to measure final negotiated prices or completed transaction volume.
Can a state median show where the same car is cheapest?
Not by itself. State medians reflect different model, age, specification, and mileage mixes. Compare the same vehicle cohort and include inspection, travel, and transfer costs.
Are the model value bands offers or guarantees?
No. They are orientation ranges for common cohorts. The exact year, variant, mileage, condition, history, warranty, and local comparisons must be assessed for the individual car.
